Cello Studio

About image
I believe music and learning an instrument can help children improve in many other areas mentally, emotionally and intellectually. Private instruction will help improve a student’s skills by allowing them to move at their own pace and focus on specific areas and answer individual questions. We will work on skills such as proper posture and instrument positioning, bowing, good tone, reading music, music theory, rhythm, and vibrato. We will be using Suzuki, essential elements for strings, and a few other books for learning etudes, scales, and tenor clef.

I studied music at BYU. I performed in an audition only orchestras as well as took college level private instruction for four years. I currently play with the UMC chancel orchestra and have always made the cello a part of my life. I combined my love of music and helping/healing kids and started music programs at a youth facility and elementary school as well as taught cello where we lived previously. I truly believe that music can be therapeutic and healing, which is why I love teaching youth when life can get more stressful and complicated.

I am a mother of two cute girls and live in Fairfield, where I teach from my home. If you live in the area we can discuss bringing lessons to your home if there is a need.

Additional books

Solos for Young Cellists

This is a compilation of great solos with piano accompaniment that will help hone your cellist's skills. Available on Amazon.

I Know a Fox with Dirty Socks

Essentials

Suzuki Books 1-9

We will be using Suzuki books as our main repertoire. These can be found on amazon or any local music store. It is recommended you purchase it with the CD because listening to the music is as important as learning to play it, but recordings of the pieces can also be found on YouTube.

Scale and arrpegios

Scales and arpeggios are required every week. This book is very comprehensive and has all the two octave scales and arpeggios your student will ever need. It can be purchased on Amazon.

Essential Elements for Strings Book 1

If your child starts learning through their school they will already use this book at school, but if they haven't used it is a great book to learn how to read music and the basics about their instrument. Available on Amazon or any music store.

Advanced books

Scaling the Tenor Clef

Thumb Position for Cello

Students are expected to attend lessons year-round.  Each student will have four “grace” lessons a year they may miss as long as at least a 24 hour notice is given. All parents are invited to attend lessons.
Students are expected to practice regularly. I will discuss individual practice time with each student. Each student will be required to have a marble notebook I will write down their assignments for the week so parent and student can remember what they need to work on. They should bring this notebook to lessons every week.
Tuition is due at the beginning of every month.
